Recovery Update From Knee Surgery

It’s been about 10 days since the surgery. There is one thing that most people don’t understand about this surgery. There is no such things as a quick recovery or being ahead of schedule. Otherwise, things have been going good so far and I have yet to go stir crazy being at home over 90% of the time.

Following the surgery the physical therapist provided a list of things to do while at home. The list includes moving the knee cap left/right and up/down to create movement, leg raises, and side leg raises among other exercises. I’ve been doing these exercises at least once per day since the surgery and sometimes more.

Yesterday was my second visit with the physical therapist. I completed all of the same exercises along with a couple of new ones. The big one that got me somewhat excited was getting on the stationary bike. My left quad was so tight that it took me 2-3 minutes of completing half and 3/4 circles to finally get my left foot over the top. I was on the bike for 10 minutes with a very slow cadence (about 1 rotation every 10 seconds). The idea was to create some flexibility without harming the fragile areas within the knee.

Tomorrow I’m set to meet with the doctor for a checkup and to get my stiches removed. That will also be an exciting day which will allow me to go to the neighborhood hot tub and pool for some relaxation (and hopefully a little eye candy).

  1. No news is good news. Well, almost. Not much has changed since last week other than getting the stiches removed. During that appointment I was told no laying in the hot tub until I’m walking again. That was a little dissapointment. My next appointment is in late June which will mark the 6 week point from the surgery. That will also be when I provide the next update.
