There’s nothing that gets me more up for a workout than being mad. And today, I had the pleasure of a great workout. Too bad it was at the expense of the Jets and a HORRIBLE call at the end of the game. Not that the Jets played particularly well. Almost any other team would have put them away without the opportunity to make a game of it. But, with about a minute left, down by 7, the Jets were left with a 4th down attempt inside the Browns 20 yard line. The Browns blitzed, Pennington gave the first person to get in his face a head fake, Pennington moved forward in the pocket, throws a lob pass to the right side of the field right at the cusp of the end-zone, Baker makes a 1 handed catch and gets clobbered on his left side, causing him to land out of bounds. The refs ruled he was out of bounds and wouldn’t have had an opportunity to get his feet in. Last I checked, there is a rule allowing the refs to call a catch in bounds if the player is pushed out of bounds before getting the opportunity to get both feet down. Now, maybe I’m wrong, but wasn’t this rule put into place to protect the offensive player from this type of play. I would think, even if it’s somewhat close, the play should be called a catch. Why implement the rule if it’s not going to be used?! And, after getting to see over 10 replays of the catch, I have no doubt he would have landed in bounds. Well, the refs refused to review the play, causing the play to end the Jets drive and potential TD, and ending the game. And this is why I had the benefit of a great workout today.
