That was the question posed to me by the cab driver on my way to the airport after a fun weekend in Vegas. My brother and I stayed at Planet Hollywood (formerly Alladin), right across from the Bellagio. After thinking about the question for a little while, I figured the free drinks cost less than $10 per. Not too bad considering each drink was $8 plus tip when I wasn’t at a table gambling. I didn’t see much of Vegas outside of the hotel, the temperature in Vegas was over 100 degrees each day. It barely made it down into the 70′s each night. It was hot! So, I just stayed at the hotel and enjoyed the gambling, bars, and scenery.
The worst night for gambling, by far, was Friday, my first night in Vegas. I was about $100 down at the black jack table after a few hours and then it happened… drunk and stuper! Sometime after 2 in the morning I lost about $125 in a flash. It was ugly. My brother and I made a rule after the that night; no gambling after 2 AM.
I woke up refreshed on Saturday – as much as possible after a full night of drinking – and ready to make my money back. At the end of the day, I was up $25. The best part of Saturday was my celebrity sighting. As we were hanging out at our table at the bar that night, the table to our left was blocked off. Well, after a while, Sly Stallone and his crew pulled up some seats. There are two things I have to say about Sly. First of all, he’s old. Second, he’s freakin’ ripped.
Sunday, our final day in Vegas, turned out to be my best. At one point I was about $200 up, at which point I probably should have stopped and considered myself even for the weekend. But no, that wasn’t possible, I kept on going. When I was done, I was up only $100.
In the end, I figure I lost about $100 gambling. Include all the tips for drinks and maybe I was down about $150. I figure I had at least 15 drinks while gambling, which is a very conservative number, and the cost per drink was less than $10. Not that it matters much, but the question did get me thinking. Oh, and one more thing. Hopefully no one is surprised by this; but, there are no pictures to show for the trip. Get over it!
