People everywhere!

Everywhere I turned, people were looking up, down, or thinking in their own little world. No one looked at anyone, which is hard considering how many people were around. This was my experience on the N train from Times Square to Queens during the afternoon rush home. This is the impression New Yorkers give to outsiders. Luckily, I’m from Long Island and have seen this before. For the most part, New Yorkers aren’t mean or cold, they just want to get to their destination and don’t want people getting in their way. This is very different impression from what you will get in Denver, where people seem to be overly nice, whether they care or not. I’m not sure one is better than the other, they’re just different.

I arrived in NY on Monday after spending the weekend in DC visiting Bryan and Courtney, a couple of friends from college and when I lived in DC. In terms of personality, DC is sort of in the middle of NY and Denver. People tend to be a little more open than NY, but not as open as people from Denver. If things don’t work out in Denver and I decided to move back east, DC would be my top choice. Although DC is a very expensive place to live, there’s a boat load of free museums to go to at the National Mall. On Sunday, my friends and I ventured over to the Air and Space Museum for the afternoon before heading over to my favorite Mexican restaurant, Cactus Cantina. There’s a running joke that we have about this restaurant. For some reason, when you order the enchiladas, there’s always a some extra cheese hanging out under the rice. And who doesn’t like a little extra cheese?

After visiting my family and friends for a few days on Long Island, I’m going to stay in Queens on Friday night before heading back to Denver on Saturday. It’s a quick one week trip out east, but I wanted to get back for the Super Bowl on Sunday and head up to Keystone on Monday. After this trip, I’m thinking there will be one more trip before I start working again. I dread the day I start working again, but I guess it has to happen eventually.
