What does the media say I should think?

The media and sports fans make me laugh in disgust, specifically those in NY. The media brought up a subject, the impending firing of Willie Randolph as coach of the Mets, and “speculate” to their hearts content. And then, when it happens, make things worse by thinking there is a good way to fire someone. Hell, I should know there isn’t a good way to be let go.

The fans, unable to make their own opinion, jump on the bandwagon. Please, get off your high horse and look at all this objectively, not how the media wants you to think. No one knows the details behind the decision, so don’t speculate on them. Why is it that the media and fans have this rage that allows them to think the worst of every situation? Come on, get over yourselves, you don’t know everything.

Also, lets clarify, the firing took place at midnight PST. This just happened to be 90 minutes after the last pitch. The East coast isn’t the center of the universe, things happen at different times in other time zones. Add the fact that the sports business doesn’t work on a 9-5 day.

What if a decision was made to fire Willie, but not tell him until they returned to NY next week. I’m sure news would have leaked out during the next couple of days. Willie would have been a dead man walking during those days. Then the media would have done the same thing talking about how the Mets organization is a disgrace for not letting him go right away. There is no winning in a situation like this.

Oh, and I love this one. Why did they fire him after winning a game? Well, how about this, he wasn’t fired based on one game. It was the culmination of less than stellar play by the team for over a season. In the end, it’s sad that the coach has to be fired based on the players not doing their jobs, but sometimes a change is needed and that’s the first place management looks.

Ok, I think I’m over my rant, but can’t guarantee I won’t come back for more.

  1. The demise of Willie began on the night of October 19, 2006, when Heilman was left in for one batter too many (Yadier who??), Beltran looked at one too many strikes (and right down the middle) and K and I did not order the nachos (man those were the best ever).

Because of these three things, Willie did not get to the World Series, thus earning a freebie grace period of a few years, and Endy’s catch went from the ‘Greatest Catch of All Time’ to ‘another really good catch’.

And by the way K, the East Coast IS the center of the universe. And one more thing…Jerry Manuel has a winning percentage of .000 as Mets manager…he should be FIRED!!!

  2. Damn, those were really good nachos. What were we thinking not ordering them again? Baseball is a game of superstitions, the Mets won the previous time we ordered them, we should have known better.

  3. NP Joker. I ended up watching it a couple of times, it truly was a great catch. I remember thinking there was no way the Mets can lose the game after that catch. It was one of those game changers. But it wasn’t meant to be.

btw – Jerry Manuel now has a .500 winning percentage, does he get to manage 1 more game?
