Moving, muts, and sports have pretty much nothing to do with each other, but they happen to be little topics I wrote down for the next time I had an opportunity to post. I’ll start with the move. From the time I moved to Marina Del Rey in August until a couple of weeks ago I lived in a one bedroom apartment with my brother. He used the bedroom, I slept in the living room on an air mattress. It wasn’t too bad at the beginning, but after I started working it got to be a bit rough, especially on my back. So we finally decided to move into a bigger apartment in the same complex. This was the first time I ever used a moving company to do all the heavy lifting and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to moving myself again. Almost everything went smooth as part of move, except for getting internet access. That seems to be fixed now, but I don’t expect it to be this way for long as the company in the complex has a really bad history (my brother has lived here for a few years now).
Now for the fun stuff. How ’bout them J.E.T.S Jets! Jets! Jets! It wasn’t pretty today, but they’re now 8-3 for the season with the possibility of getting a first round bye. How sweet would that be?! And since one of my friends here is a Miami Dolphins fan, I have to get a little dig in. Do you realize you’re tied for last place in the AFC East? Well, I guess that is where everyone expected them to be this season. They just happened to surprise a few people with a good start.
There was some good news from the Knicks too. They made a couple of trades on Friday that won’t make them better or worse, but gives them some cap flexibility during the next couple of years. It’s a big relief as a fan. The past 3-4 years have been extremely tough to watch and root for the Knicks. But now they seem to be moving in the right direction, even if it doesn’t show up in the W-L column this season. They’re at least more exciting to watch now.
This last topic is something that suprised me, in a good way. I think it was about 2 weeks ago that Obama referred to himself as a mut. How nice is it to have someone at the top say something like that. The concept of being politically correct has gone way too far the past few years. People seem to take any comment, whether it’s in the political and sports arena, and take offense to it. Luckily, as I noted earlier, my internet connection wasn’t too good at the apartment for the first couple of weeks, so there may have been a lot of bad press about it and I just didn’t read it. Maybe that’s the approach I should take from now on.
What in the world do you mean “It wasn’t pretty”???? It was almost picture perfect, starting with a defensive stand, and then a 9 play, 76 yard drive that ate up 4 and a half minutes, to go up 7-0 and never look back! Are you sure you weren’t sleeping on your head on that air matress?
And yes, Miami is in last place, but with a not all-that-bad 6-5 record, only 2 back of Gang Green. It’s bad enough we put the curse on the Mets*, but now you go and put the horns on the Jets!?!?! Oh boy…
* BTW – I will try and reverse the Curse of the Nachos next week….
Ok, it was rather pleasing from a Jets perspective. It was almost stress free, which is tough to say about any of the NY teams I root for. My concern is for Jets (and fans) getting too excited over this win. It could have easily been a dog fight if the Titans receivers decided to rub something other than butter on their hands during the game. How many dropped passes did they have just in the first half? 5? 6? Add a fumble into the mix too. It wasn’t so much about defensive stands as Tennessee not making the easy plays. If they make some of those plays, the Jets don’t have as many possessions as they did and, in turn, don’t score as many points. Maybe I’ve been beat down by the Jets and Mets too often to see the glass half full. Either way, I’ll take the win.
As for Miami, they are a respectible 6-5, better than anyone could have reasonably expected. My theory is, if this friend is willing to say the Jets suck even as they’re winning and in first place, I’ll get my digs in now that I can because, like you said, it can turn pretty quickly.
Good luck with the reverse curse plan. Any chance I have some say in which photo you decided to leave at the establishment you choose to go to?
No. The choice is entirely up to me. It will probably be a picture of of you dry-mooning the camera at one of our golf outings….sort of a “Kiss my A$$ and Leave the Mets Alone You Nacho Gods!!!!” statement.
And let me clarify….I do not ‘choose’ a place…. It is whatever place Jackson’s has become… I’ve heard that it may be a furniture place now. This will make it fun when I plunge the picture of you, and the Endy Chavez card, deep down underneath some sofa cushions, for some unsuspecting purchaser. Maybe 2, 3….6 months from now, they find it when vaccuming their living room and “VOILA!”…the curse is lifted… The eating of the sacrificial nachos will also take place, hopefully in a reasonably similar sport where we had them a few years ago…..
Ha! I actually remember that picture, I think is’t on my computer. Maybe I’ll add it to the photo album for fun. I’m sure everyone wants to see my fat… ok, mabye not.
Lodo’s will probably suffice as a sports bar, but their nachos aren’t even close to what Jacksons has to offer. If you truly want to lift the curse, you’ll go to the Jackson’s across from Coors Field to eat their nachos.
OK – You’re not getting it. I don’t need to go to a Jacksons….or to Lodos…..or a sports bar…. or anywhere that serves nachos….
I need to go to the establishment on the corner of Yosemite and Belleview, whatever it is these days. That is where Jackson’s WAS….THAT is where we had the nachos…..that same latitude and longitude is where I need to go!
Geez – get it?
A little testy today, huh Joker. I’m totally on board with going to the same exact location at the corner of Belleview and Yosemite. My request for you to go to the Jackson’s near Coors Field is for the sacrificial nachos. I’m asking you to take this plan to the max damn it!
Glad to see the JETS JETS JETS grounded by INCREDIBLY INCONSISTENT Broncos…………
And I was wondering when someone from Denver would finally talk some trash. Luckily I still have one thing to hold on to with Broncos fans, the standings. Four games to go, should be fun.
I like the nickname, DTrain. It’s fitting. If I were playing some sport named footy, I definitely wouldn’t want to get in your way.
