Travel Miles through September 2011

If you’ve been reading the blog during the past 6 months or so you will have noticed I started posting about my travel adventures, which I usual write while I’m on the return flight. I use the term adventures loosely as most of my travel is for work. Then again, any time you have to venture into an airport can result in an adventure, so I guess the term isn’t so far fetched. There were a few times this year where I made a comment to friends about tracking my travel miles. I even commented about tracking my miles in a post back in May. Well, this morning I decided it was time. So far I’ve travelled 40,230 miles. I used the mileage calculator at WebFlyer, a tool I found with a quick Google search, which allowed me to include a specific number of miles between locations, including any layovers. For the record, this only includes airline miles, so my road trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon in July are not included. With a few more out of town projects on the schedule the number could reach 45,000 miles before the end of the year. Granted, I’m sure there are people out there, especially those in the sales arena, that probably travel more than double that number of miles, but I think this is a high number for the average worker bee.

This was all made possible by one of my sicknesses, called email hoarding, which allowed me to find all my travel reservations from this past year. The email history for travel reservations actually goes back to March 2009, so I could conceivably do a little history check to compare years, but that’s a task for another day. I’ll post again at the end of the year with a final tally.
