Bait and Switch

As I noted in my last blog, LivingDot comes with highly recommended customer service. Prior to changing my web host provider to Livingdot I sent two e-mails asking questions about their hosting services. Both e-mails were answered within 10 minutes, which I think is impressive in this day and age. One of these questions was:

Would it be difficult to import my current WordPress blog to Movable Type?

To which they answered:

No, we can do that for you.

Seems pretty straigh forward to me. Well, maybe not. After purchasing the service I requested they move my WordPress blog from Network Solutions servers to theirs, which they did. Following the transfer, I requested they import the WordPress blog over to Movable Type. After a few hours I received an e-mail noting the following:

I was able to setup Movable Type, however, WordPress does not have a export tool at this time that can export to Movable Type format.

Sounds to me like I was lied to prior to purchasing the services. Earlier today I sent them an e-mail noting my stance and included most of the information included in this blog. LinvingDot replied by noting:

I’m sorry you feel that way, but no one lied to you, and we don’t have to lie in order to get customers. There is a plugin available called WP-Export, that lets you export entries from WordPress into Movable Type. That plugin was never updated to work with the latest version of WordPress, that’s why it didn’t work in your case. If you’re free to switch to Network Solutions if you’re happy with them more.

All I can say is wow, within a two week period WordPress issued a new version that this WP-Export tool doesn’t work with. I did some research on this WP-Export tool. Turns out it was developed for WordPress version 1.5, which was issued sometime last year. I was using version 2.02 when using Network Solutions as my host. When LivingDot noted they could do that for me, I was already using a later version of WordPress, which they now say they can’t export. The new version, 2.04, has no effect on the WP-Export tool. In other words, they covered their lie with a false statement. I sent LivingDot another e-mail noting the discrepancy, more to come in the next few days.

Just testing the comments. Mike said he couldn’t see the comments he posted. This could be tragic because, while change is good, it would terrible if we could not-cyber abuse you.
    :) :)

I agree with Connie. Not being able to abuse you in Cyberspace would be irredecorrigible.
