Fitness Routine

Seven months have now passed since my knee surgery. The past few months have been flying by. I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas already. As for the knee, things are progressing. This past week I pushed it for the first time since the surgery by taking a spin class at the gym. My quads were sore for three days… and I consider that to be good news. The hardest muscles to strengthen following microfracture knee surgery are the quads. Mostly because leg extensions and lunges are not allowed. So, being able to take a 60 minute spin class, and actually finish, is a plus. I’m going to try to make that at least a once per week part of my routine, which also includes a leg workout once per week. Outside of those two workouts, I usually do some sort of cardio and upper body strength training. These days I’m working out about 4 days per week. Slowly, I’m hoping this will get me to the point where I can play a pickup game of basketball once every couple of weeks. For me, there’s nothing that’s as much fun and provides the stress relief than a couple of pickup games. Well, I’m sure I could think of a couple of other things, but you get the point.
