Nope, we’re not talking about the massive discussions we’re experiencing here at Poulios.com, IntenseDebate is just another WordPress plugin that we’re taking for a ride, although the concept of IntenseDebate is to increase discussion on the site. So what is IntenseDebate? Your best source is probably to check out the IntenseDebate website. But I’ll try to explain a few reasons why I’me taking it for a ride here. First of all, it replaces a plugin I was using called Subsribe-to-Comments. It allows people commenting on the site to click a checkbox and receive emails when someone else posts a comment. But IntenseDebate takes this feature to the next level, it allows users commenting on the site to respond directly from their email without needing to go to Poulios.com. Yes, it does seem backwards that I’m installing a plugin that promotes NOT visiting my site. But who am I kidding, there’s only a handful of people visiting the site anyway. So far it hasn’t been all I was hoping for. I replied to a comment from Joker and the comment didn’t hit the site until later that night, a good 8-10 hrs. after I replied to the email. I’m going to give it a try for a few more weeks/months before deciding on whether to go back to the old way or not. Bare with me if the process is a little bumpy.
On a side note, I’m blogging from the Indianapolis Airport. Gotta love airports that provide free wifi. I’ll be on my merry way to LA – with a layover in Charlotte – in less than an hour. We’ll catch up on the other side.
